Penguin plays Santa by picking the books to give this Christmas

Pengiun Random House hopes to take the stress out of gift-giving this Christmas, with a ‘Gift that comes alive’ campaign via its in-house team.

Catering to all groups, the campaign includes three quirky stop-motion videos for kids, teens and adults, which are being shared across social media, online and the screens in Auckland Link buses and Wellington Flyer buses.

Each of the clips brings the books advertised to life through a series of images, which emerge from within the pages.

The videos encourage viewers to visit an an interactive gift finder website, penguingifts.co.nz, created for the campaign. It allows visitors to receive a personal recommendation for a book by answering a few fun questions. They are asked to identify the age group they are buying for, enter the receiver’s name, and then identify their interests.

At the end of the questions, a book is identified with links to buy it online and a map to the closest book store.

As well as the videos, traffic to the site is being driven by radio and print advertising.
