NZRetail magazine gets a refit, launches online news service The Register

NZRetail magazine is nearing its 70th year in publication, but the grandest dame in Kiwi retail news has lost none of her pizzazz. And it’s just emerged from a rebranding with a bigger format, perfect binding, a bi-monthly publishing schedule and a long-awaited online arm, The Register.

NZRetail was first launched in 1948 as the official magazine of Retail NZ (formerly known as the New Zealand Retailers’ Association). And Tangible Media has been publishing the magazine since 2008. But the decision was made at the end of 2014 to bring the magazine into the modern era. And publisher Vincent Heeringa says when Retail NZ asked it to re-imagine the NZRetail magazine, it jumped at the chance.

“We said ‘yes’ immediately because, like them, we see huge potential for growth, especially in the digital space,” he says.

Chief executive of Retail NZ, Mark Johnston, says it was an easy decision to pair up with Tangible Media once more.

“Together we’ve successfully produced an award-winning magazine. But nothing stands still in retail,” Johnston says. “Plus we’d seen how successful Tangible has been with products like StopPress and Idealog, so we asked for some fresh thinking. Vincent and the team have done a great job of re-imagining the future for retail.”

The magazine will be published six times a year in February, April, June, August, October and December. Each issue is mailed to every member of Retail NZ and key stakeholders within the industry. The first new-look issue is out now (subscribe here).

The responsive website TheRegister.co.nz, which counts Vend, Westpac, Spark Business, Hotfoot, GrabOne, TRA and Ubiquity as its launch sponsors and was developed by ICG’s creative studio, provides a daily dose of news, insight, inspiration and job opportunities from the retail industry and subscribers will receive a newsletter two times a week (click the sign me up button on the homepage). If you find any bugs you can notify them through the “send feedback” button in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
