More success for speedy filmmakers

With the champagne glasses barely out of the dishwasher, V48HOURS Film Festival 2010 grand champions, The Downlow Concept, have received even more good news.

The Auckland-based comic consortium's award-winning short ONLY SON has been selected to screen at this year’s Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. Fantastic Fest is the largest genre film festival in the U.S., specializing in horror, fantasy, sci-fi, action and "just plain fantastic" movies from all around the world. Past festivals have included the world premieres of such films as There will be blood and Apocalypto.

ONLY SON, a comic ghost story, beat 650 other short films for the top award on the strength of its “great performances, terrific writing and beautiful direction”, according to V48 judge Josh Olson.

The downlow concept is planning to shoot its feature debut in the summer of 2011 and is open to any offers of investment.
