Meet the leaders: the Marketing Association chooses its weapons

Minutes were taken, bad coffee was consumed, plaques were handed out and thanks were given at the Marketing Association’s AGM a couple of days ago. And the end result was a few new yet well-known humans taking up positions on the various boards and networks of 'your' association.

Outgoing board chairman Simone Iles, who has held the top role for the past two terms, has been involved as a board member for a total of eight years and will be replaced by Synovate's Debra Hall, outlined several initiatives for marketers and marketing in New Zealand, highlighted the positive growth that’s been achieved both organisationally and financially and paid tribute to chief executive Sue McCarty for her leadership and drive to bring about this result, a particularly pleasing one in view of the tough economic climate of the past two years.

McCarty returned the favour and handed Iles a plaque and some flowers. She also offered a big thank you to everyone who stood for election to the various committees and encouraged those who missed out to contact her so their energy and skills can be harnessed in other ways that will benefit themselves and the MA.

Retiring DM Network chairman Hamish Travers, who will be replaced by DraftFCB's Matt Scott, was also presented with a plaque acknowledging his leadership of the special interest group during its inaugural two-year term.

A perfect match: The importance of quality content and conversation in influencer marketing

Using an influencer is nothing new in advertising. But in the past few years, the definition of the role has expanded to YouTubers, Instagrammers, bloggers and vloggers, and brands have been jumping on the bandwagon to be mentioned in newsfeeds. However, with the online space comes a new set of challenges from selecting an influencer to measuring results. We chat to Fuse content and brand experience director Holly Lindsey about choosing the right influencer for the brand, understanding the grey areas and generating organic engagement.
