It’s all about the booze—and the dogs—as Colenso and DDB claim first Kiwi Cannes wins—UPDATED

The first awards show has taken place at the Cannes Festival of Creativity, with the Direct, Promo & Activation and PR category winners announced. And Colenso BBDO is off to a good start, winning a gold for Pedigree ‘Donation glasses’ Adoption Drive and a gold, silver and bronze for Monteith’s ‘Sorry about the twigs, folks’ in the Promo & Activation category and a bronze Direct Lion for its ‘The Wine That Sold Beer’ campaign for DB Breweries. DDB scored bronze for Steinlager’s ‘We Believe’ in Promo & Activation. There were no New Zealand entries awarded in the PR Lions.

Crispin Porter + Bogusky and Digitas New York won the grand prix in both Promo & Activation (Nick Worthington, Colenso’s creative chairman was leading the jury) and Direct for Small Business Gets An Official Day for American Express.

In PR, the grand prix went to Puerto Rico, for The Most Popular Song for Banco Popular De Puerto Rico by JWT San Juan.

And here’s the rundown on the Kiwi shortlistings still up for awards.

The Media shortlist, with a total of 281 entries, includes several New Zealand entries:

  • ‘See More of New Zealand By Train’, Clemenger BBDO for Kiwirail Tranz Scenic (in two sub-categories)
  • ‘Extraordinary Stories’, IKON Communications for New Zealand Police, Police Recruitment
  • ‘Top to Bottom Off Road’, Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand for Toyota FJ Cruiser
  • ‘What’s Your Dulux Colur of New Zealand’, OMD Wellington for Dulux Colours of New Zealand
  • ‘Sorry About The Twigs, Folks’, Colenso BBDO and Proximity Pulse for DB Breweries Monteith’s Crushed Cider

The Outdoor shortlist, with 588 entries, with the following Kiwi entries:

  • ‘Welly on a Plate’, Whybin\TBWA\Tequila for Visa/Wellington on a Plate Culinary Festival
  • ‘Mary Christmas’, Whybin\TBWA\Tequila for St Matthew in the City Church
  • ‘Oil on Canvas’, Publicis Mojo for Greenpeace New Zealand (in two sub-categories)
  • ‘Sheep’, Y&R for Icebreaker
  • ‘The Wine List’, Colenso BBDO for DB Breweries (Export Dry)
  • ‘Twigs’, Colenso BBDO for DB Breweries (Monteith’s Crushed Cider)
  • ‘Skate Pinball’, Colenso BBDO for Frucor Beverages Mountain Dew
  • ‘Fly Buys Music’, Clemenger BBDO for Loyalty NZ

The Pressshortlist, with 501 entries, features the following from NZ:

No New Zealand entries made the cut for the Mobile or Creative Effectiveness Lions.
