How many times do we have to tell you – don’t believe everything you read!

Two newspapers in Bangladesh, Daily Manab Zamin and New Nation, recently reported the NASA moon landings were fake after reading an article on The Onion website.

Translated into Bengali, the reports explained that at a news conference, astronaut Neil Armstrong shocked reporters when he told them he had been convinced the moon landings were an “elaborate hoax orchestrated by the US government”. Armstrong goes on to say, “the entire thing was filmed on a soundstage, most likely in New Mexico”.

The editors of both newspapers had no clue that The Onion was a satirical news organisation, so they didn’t bother checking the source. They have both printed apologies to their readers.
