Fly Buys harnesses the charity swipe

Along with the main ’every time you swipe something a little bit good happens’ TVC featuring a bunch of playful animals, the idea of creating little moments of joy has been brought to life in the real world with some nice experiential executions, like swipe-activated bubble gum billboards and bubble blowing Adshels and even a seat and a magazine for weary Wellington travellers. But for its latest trick Fly Buys has got the Wellington City Council on-side and is trying to bring some joy to an eight-year-old boy named Elijah.

Elijah has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and his wish is to have a jungle playhouse in his backyard, complete with a flying fox. So for four weeks, Fly Buys members and Airpoints cardholders will be able to activate the Carter Fountain in Oriental Bay, Wellington, between 6pm and 11pm by swiping their card at a kiosk. And every time a card is swiped at the fountain (apparently there’s an urban myth that is turned on and off by a button at the Mayor’s house), Fly Buys will donate $5 to Make-a-Wish New Zealand to help make his jungle playhouse wish come true.

If you’re not in Wellington but you’d like to help make his wish come true you can donate points or cash towards his wish here: www.flybuys.co.nz/make-a-wish.
