Colenso BBDO and FCB lead as CAANZ announces Effies finalists

After an intensive judging process that saw entries scrutinised by 200 preliminary judges and 70 category judges, CAANZ has announced a shortlist of 99 finalists for the 2015 New Effie Awards.

Leading the finalists’ pack this year is Colenso BBDO with  24 nominations across the 15 categories, followed by FCB with 17, Saatchi & Saatchi with ten, DDB with eight, JWT and Barnes Catmur & Friends with five apiece, and .99/JustOne with four.

As has been the case in previous years, agencies will earn points for the number of awards and finalist spots secured. Agencies get 12 points for the Grand Effie, eight for a gold, six for a silver, four a bronze and two for a finalist spot.

At last year’s event, FCB reigned supreme with a tally of 94 points, which was convincingly ahead of Saatchi & Saatchi in second place on 54 points and Colenso BBDO/Proximity New Zealand in third on 52 points.

The Grand Effie was last year awarded to Saatchi & Saatchi (in collaboration with ApolloNation and Spark PHD) for the ‘Tui Catch a Million’ campaign.

Executive judges Aisha Daji Punga (Frucor Beverages Ltd), Oliver Lynch (Westpac), Kate Smith (Independent), Jenny Stiles (Nielsen), Kellie Nathan (Independent Marketing), Jodie Burnard (Flight Centre), Ben Rose (Sovereign) and UK guest judge Ali Bucknall will this year determine which creative pieces get metal.

Those nominated will now have to wait until 8 October, when the winners will be announced at the gala dinner hosted at The Langham in Auckland.
