Effies 2018: DDB, Colenso BBDO and Special Group lead finalists

The Commercial Communications Council has announced 100 Effie finalists across the 17 categories for 2018 and DDB, Colenso BBDO and Special Group lead the way.

DDB features 23 times on list of finalists, followed by Colenso BBDO’s 21 mentions and Special Group’s 10.

Last year’s big winner, FCB, which took home 12 golds and the Grand Effie with Mercury, is this year featured on the finalists list six times.

FCB sits between BC&F Dentsu’s eight mentions and PHD’s seven. True has six mentions.

According to the announcement, this year's Effie Awards brings attention to long-term success with campaigns that have gone beyond the short-term results to create genuine lasting change for an organisation.

Like last year’s Effie Awards, the eligible entry dates were extended backwards to allow campaigns for the last two years to be included. That extension may be a reason why last year there were 18 golds awarded compared to 2016’s seven.

This year's winners will be announced at a ceremony on Shed 10 at Auckland’s Queen’s Wharf on 18 October.

All winners can be seen here and below.
