Dentsu Aegis Network launches local Amplifi, welcomes Richard Pook as head

Dentsu Aegis Network’s global media investment arm, Amplifi, has expanded into the local market with Richard Pook taking the reins.

Commencing 13 February, Pook will lead the local branch in newly created role of head of Amplifi New Zealand. In it, he will lead investment and local and global media partnerships for the New Zealand group.

Pook joins from global digital media and ad technology company, Exponential, where he was based in Switzerland as the EMEA managing director and VP finance. Prior to this, he held senior commercial roles within digital media and technology companies including Yahoo, British Telecom, Optus, and Telstra.

CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network New Zealand Robert Harvey says Pook’s combination of commercial and digital experience will set Amplifi apart from legacy trading models and deliver a demonstrable uplift in media innovation and performance for its clients.

Until now, local Amplifi work has been lead by president for Australia and New Zealand Greg Brown.

The announcement of a local Amplifi branch follows a busy 2016 for the network in New Zealand, after it acquired a majority stake in Barnes, Catmur & Friends and launched its ninth network brand and lifestyle agency MKTG.

The acquisitions and expansions mean that in the last four years, the Dentsu Aegis Network grew from around 70 local staff to 120—a number that’s set to grow again with Amplifi.

“I have a real restlessness and relentlessness in wanting to grow out our group,” Harvey told StopPress last year.

“Our global leader Jerry Buhlmann has this saying that the future belongs to the fast, which I love and absolutely buy into.”
