Sarah Nicholson will take over as editor of Cuisine magazine in February, replacing outgoing editor Eric Matthews, who is returning to Sydney to work as a design consultant.
Nicholson, who left New Zealand in 1996, was editor of Australia’s Vogue Entertaining & Travel magazine. She was named editor of glossy Australian food mag delicious in 2006 and, in this role, was named an MPA (Magazine Publishers of Australia) finalist for Editor of the Year in 2008.
“The opportunity to edit such an iconic magazine and work with the talented team at Cuisine in my home country is a dream come true,” she says.
Fairfax Magazines’ general manager Lynley Belton says her excellent food credentials, extensive experience and Kiwi heritage made her an obvious choice for the role.
According to the NZ Herald, outgoing editor Eric Matthews, who had spent around one year in the editor’s chair, shook things up after announcing his resignation in December by ending experienced food writer Lauraine Jacobs’ contract.
Jacobs had been writing for the magazine for 22 years. And while Lynley Belton wasn’t commenting on the Jacobs-Matthews saga, she says there’s always a chance that Jacobs could come back into the fold if Nicholson chooses to use her as a contributor.
Belton says Matthews is leaving on very good terms and she is happy with his performance in the role.
“Eric has made a significant contribution to the look and feel of the magazine over the past year,” she says.
Nicholson takes up the reins in mid February to start work on the April/May issue of Cuisine
