Come to the carrot

We’ve featured plenty of bank ads in recent weeks on StopPress. But this one’s a bit different. And while ANZ is doing it’s utmost to retain customers around the country after the National Bank announcement, it might not have to do quite as much in Ohakune to keep them loyal, as this cult-like classic shows.

Ever wondered how Ohakune got their carrot? Well, back in 1984 “The Carrot” was built for one of our TV ads and on 29 September 1984 was donated to the Ohakune Growers Association at the official unveiling. Since then thousands of people (even some celebrities) have been seen, filmed or photographed at the foot of the famous Kiwi icon.

Now, how about a giant black horse somewhere in the Waikato?

Speaking of big things, Carnival Australia has answered Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker’s plea to help bring Aussie tourists back to Christchurch.

Chief executive Ann Sherry, who was in New Zealand this week speaking to the tourism industry, sent an offer of support to Mayor Parker and said if he can get his hands on one of Australia’s big things, then her company will help him do get it to Christchurch using one of their big cruise ships.
