Bugs takes over city for Auckland Zoo exhibition via Rainger & Rolfe

Weta Workshop and Te Papa have joined forces to develop an immersive and interactive exhibition to be hosted at Auckland Zoo.

To promote the exhibition, Jooles Clements, Auckland Zoo’s head of marketing and communications, says the zoo “wanted to do something around the city that would reflect the scale and impact of the bugs in the exhibition, and complement the amazing campaign material Te Papa and Weta had already created”.

“When Rainger & Rolfe proposed that the bugs could ‘take over the city’ we knew it would be great. Everyone has worked tirelessly to develop a stunning series of activations that highlight each of the unique qualities that make our bugs special."

One of the activations is a giant 9x9 metre glow-in-the-dark spider web at Silo Park, and there are further bug activations popping up all over Auckland.

Featuring larger than life 3D bug models within four magical chambers, visitors get to not only see the world the bugs built but be part of it. Every bug, from the jewel wasp to the orchid mantis, has a secret and the visitor’s challenge is to discover that secret.

The Bug Lab has been developed by Te Papa and before travelling to Melbourne Museum, it will be at Auckland Zoo between 20 December and mid-2018. Session tickets are available for purchase here.
