The Block finale delivers strong ratings for MediaWorks

Despite the outrage surrounding the end of The Block NZ, it was the second strongest performing edition of the show across all six seasons.

The finale attracted an average audience of 306,500 in the core 25-54 demographic and 534,800 viewers older than five.

This was a significant life from season five, which delivered 251,000 and 450,700 in the respective demographic categories.

The only season finale to have had a better turnout was season two, which was won by Pete and Andy Walker.

This season finale provoked controversy because eventual winners Andy Murdie and Nathan Ross were only able to sell their house at the second attempt.

If anything, this provided an indication that it wasn’t quite as easy as it once was to sell a house in Auckland. This sentiment was further backed by the overall profit earned from the houses, which was well below the amount collected during previous seasons.

The strong ratings for this season of the show strongly point toward a seventh season of the show, but the dwindling profits from the sales suggest that there might be need for some new financial incentives to attract contestants to the laborious task of building houses next year.
