ANZ calls on Olympic athletes to ‘dream big’—UPDATED

As excitement for the Rio Olympic Games rises while the games draw nearer, so does advertising and sponsorship activity. ANZ recently launched a new spot, via True, featuring New Zealand Olympians, using its long-standing tagline ‘dream big’.

The 30-second video, shared on ANZ’s Facebook page, features present and past Olympians preparing for, and participating in, their sport while sharing a poem about taking on the world.

Of the athletes featured, triathlete Hamish Carter talks about knowing loss at his first games before returning to take home the gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics, while Eric Murray and Hamish Bond talk about “how the world is ours if we truly believe”.

Among the voices, there is also a child who talks about having “big” and “bold” dreams.

The ‘dream big’ initiative (developed by True) has previously seen ANZ bring to fruition the wishes of cricket fans during the Cricket World Cup and rugby fans during the Rugby World Cup. Its use now reinforces ANZ as a commercial partner of the New Zealand Olympic Committee.

The committee’s ‘Be the inspiration‘ campaign features a similarly poetic tone about how New Zealand’s athletes have drawn inspiration from the land.

As well as showing its support for the Olympics, ANZ has also released a quirky spot, by WhybinTBWA, to promote its latest credit card deals.

The 30 second clip uses animation to demonstrate how ANZ’s credit cards work to turn purchases into cash back or travel. Other credit cards, it would appear, tend to be couch potatoes.
