Alt Group gilds the Lion, ‘Hi Ho Silver’ says Colenso

Alt Group may need to call in structural engineers to reinforce the mantelpiece in their Ponsonby office: the design superstars, who have taken home more than 50 international design awards in the last few years, can now add a Cannes Gold Lion to the list.

Its Gold for ‘The Vigneron’ for Oakfield Press and a further Lion, this time a Silver, for ‘The Vigneron Centenary Wine’, was part of a Kiwi trifecta in the Design category. Colenso BBDO, which is having a multi-Lion winning festival (let’s call it a pride), picked up a Silver Lion for ‘Eraser’ for Alzheimer’s New Zealand.

In Wednesday evening’s awards ceremony, on day four of the festival, Cannes Lions were also handed out in the Press and Cyber Categories.

Colenso BBDO, shortlisted six times in the Press Category, scooped three silvers for their striking campaign for Amnesty International, while in the Cyber Category it snaffled a Bronze Lion for ‘Yellow Chocolate’ for Yellow Pages.

Speaking of Cyber, Australian marcomms site Mumbrella ran an interesting article yesterday on whether the panel of Cyber judges were properly equipped to judge the section (special credit goes to Y&R’s Vaughn Davis, whose feverish tweeting meant he was deemed suitable).

And, in what could be the equivalent of being caught taking steroids at the Olympics, the Grand Prix winner of the Press category, Ogilvy Mexico for the Scrabble campaign ‘Abraham’, ‘Efren’ and ‘Otto’, had its medal taken away after it was ineligible to be entered at the 2010 Festival due to the fact that it had been entered previously.

So, the award was eventually handed to AlmapBBDO São Paulo, Brazil for the Billboard magazine campaign ‘Bono’, ‘Eminem’, ‘Amy’, ‘Britney’, ‘Marilyn’.
