Algal bloom spreads from WHYBINTBWA to Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney

Creative team Tara McKenty and Iain Nealie aka Plankton, are moving from WHYBINTBWA to Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney, where they’ll working alongside ex TBWA man man Damon Stapleton.
Nealie and McKenty are a creative team raised in the creative environs of TBWAWhybin Auckland, under the watchful eye of ECD Andy Blood. The duo have developed a penchant for new media and digital ideas.

The dynamic duo caught the world’s attention with their Cannes fundraising IPO, which saw them float shares in their future. Now their global shareholders list includes the likes of John Hunt, Nick Worthington and Nicholas Drake. The team were recently named in Campaign’s Top 50 emerging talent portfolio.

They’ve worked on campaigns for Adidas, Absolut, Nissan, Serato, Playstation, Visa, and Pepsi to name just a few and they’ve worked on both of New Zealand’s biggest banks, ASB and ANZ and been involved in several large global pitches that took them around the world to agencies across the network.

Deborah Simpson is lovin’ it at Macca’s

Deborah Simpson is now working on contract at McDonald’s, semi-replacing ex marketing head Jules Lloyd. Deborah Simpson was ASB Bank’s general manager of brand, communication and marketing and the main brain behind the controversial Creating Futures campaign. She left the ASB in September last year.

 

Flynn hits new Target
Former news anchor Carly Flynn is turning her investigative attention to the trials and tribulations of Kiwi consumers, joining Brooke Howard-Smith at the helm of popular TV3 consumer programme Target. Flynn is a familiar face to TV3 viewers as a former Nightline anchor and Sunrise host, and brings a wealth of presenting experience, as well as impeccable journalistic credentials to her new role.
MediaWorks TV Factual Commissioner Sue Woodfield says Carly is a top-notch journalist, a wife and mother, and a warm, engaging, and very experienced presenter:

“She is the perfect addition to the Target team.”
Flynn says she is excited to be part of the show that fights for Kiwi consumers’ rights: “I’ve always been a fan of the way that Target champions the underdog, and I look forward to showcasing some of the best and worst examples of Kiwi products and businesses,” she says.

Carat dangled to Sewpershad
Carat has appointed Nivin Sewpershad in the newly created position of Digital Strategist. He joins from McDonald’s Restaurants where he managed social, mobile and overall digital strategy across Australia and New Zealand. Prior to that, Nivin was Head of Technoloy for OMD.

Barrell role for Samsung

Samsung New Zealand is pleased to announce that Jon Barrell has been appointed as Sales Director, responsible for Consumer Electronics, Information Technology and Telecommunications.

Barrell joins Samsung New Zealand from Lion Dairy & Drinks, where he was the Country Manager for two years. Barrell’s extensive career spans 20 years – he has previously held senior positions with Goodman Fielder, DB Breweries and Coca-Cola Amatil.

Chang Kim, Samsung New Zealand country manager, says he is looking forward to welcoming Barrell to the Samsung team.

“Appointing a sales director across our whole business will better support our growth and provide even greater strategic direction. Jon’s wealth of experience will be a real asset to our team.

US import for MediaCom

MediaCom has named Euan Jarvie as its new chief operations officer for the EMEA region. He joins from MediaCom US where he was chief operations officer.

His brief is to work with MediaCom’s local market teams, ensuring they have the resources and specialist skills they need to deliver great campaigns for clients. In line with the agency’s philosophy of ‘People First, Better Results’, he will lead efforts to cement MediaCom’s reputation as the media agency with the most talented staff, working with market CEOs to attract, retain and motivate the very best media thinkers.

Euan joined MediaCom in 1997 to establish the UK’s Edinburgh office. The operation recorded double-digit annual growth for a decade and became the largest media agency operating in Scotland, winning business from some of the UK’s most recognised advertisers. In 2008, Euan also took on the role of re-establishing the MediaCom Ireland operation.

In 2009 Euan became Chief Client Officer at MediaCom US and was named COO in 2010. As part of the senior US leadership team, Euan has played a key role in the growth of the MediaCom network in the US and with the expansion of additional services such as business science. Key achievements include his work in securing the Travelers business in 2009 and leading the appointment of MediaCom to the global Revlon account in late 2011.

Prior to joining MediaCom, Euan worked at a number of agencies, including WWAV Rapp Collins, O&M Media, Carat and Zenith Media. He will report to Nick Lawson, CEO of MediaCom EMEA. He replaces Josh Krichefski, who has become COO of MediaCom UK.

“Euan is a proven MediaCom leader who has enjoyed great success with his development of the Scottish, Irish and US operations. He will provide inspiration to our teams while also sharing responsibility and empowering our staff to develop their skills. His task will be to continue our drive to ensure that every MediaCom office provides the same high standards of service and strategy right across the region, a programme that has been spearheaded by Josh over the last 18 months,” said Nick Lawson, chief executive officer of MediaCom, EMEA.

“I am excited to be taking on the role as EMEA COO and am looking forward to using all the experience and knowledge I have gained of across the worldwide network during the past 15 years to continue to grow this very exciting region. JML Communications expands girth

Award-winning public relations agency JML Communications is pleased to announce the appointment of Desmond Nash to the newly created role of account manager. With over four years’ experience, Nash brings strong corporate and consumer credentials working largely across the technology, fmcg and agriculture sectors.

JML Managing Director Julien Leys is excited about what Nash will bring to the team.

Adshel adds Atkinson
Adshel today announces that Rob Atkinson has been appointed permanently to the position of CEO Australia and New Zealand. Atkinson has been performing as interim chief executive officer since November last year on secondment from his role as chief operating officer for Clear Channel UK and will continue to report to Mark Thewlis, regional president Asia Pacific for Clear Channel International and Adshel joint venture owner and Richard Herring, APN News and Media’s Group Radio and Outdoor chief executive and Adshel joint venture owner.

Thewlis welcomed Atkinson’s permanent appointment saying “I am excited to have Rob on board at Adshel permanently as he not only brings a wealth of experience from the UK business, but also is a great cultural fit for Adshel. In the short time he has been here he has already had a positive impact on both the people and the business’ potential for further growth”

Atkinson commented “I’ve really enjoyed the last five months at Adshel, from the warm welcome I received to the dynamic working environment and the opportunities a robust and growing outdoor market afford the business. I am excited by the opportunity to lead a highly talented team to even
greater success going forward.”

Rob joined Clear Channel as sales director in 2005 before being promoted to group sales director in the same year, managing director in 2008 and then chief operating officer in early 2011. Prior to joining Clear Channel, Atkinson held various senior sales roles at Associated Newspapers including sales
controller at the Mail on Sunday, head of trading at the Mail on Sunday and commercial director at Ireland on Sunday. He will be based in Sydney at the St Leonards office.

Touchpoint’s new independent chair

Norman brings a life time of experience in taking products and companies to the market, including IPOs and capital raising. Frank van der Velden, Touchpoint’s chief executive officer, says:

“We are fortunate to get Phil as he is about to complete a five year term with the very successful SaaS accounting software provider, Xero. Also, I wish to acknowledge the very worthwhile guidance and advice that we have received over the past two and a half years from Rick Rainey of PMR Consulting. Rick has been instrumental in raising the maturity of our business in preparing it for improved governance amongst other operational matters. Rick continues to advise Touchpoint.”

Urlich ‘worth it’ for L’Oréal NZ

Brendon Urlich takes up the new role of Executive General Manager of L’Oréal New Zealand and General Manager of Consumer Products Division next month. Urlich comes with strong experience in various local and international sales, marketing and management positions during the past 15 years. Commercial experience in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and New Zealand markets, particularly in FMCG, gives him a strong base for his new role at L’Oréal.

In his role Urlich will have full responsibility for the Consumer Products Division business and in addition corporate responsibilities including communications, IT, supply chain, human resources and finance. The newly created role of executive general manager will represent the L’Oréal Group in New Zealand and will report to the L’Oréal Australia & New Zealand managing director, Johan Berg.

After four years in New Zealand, L’Oréal consumer products division general manager, Jean-Dominique de Ravignan, will take up a new important role internationally within the company. Urlich takes up his new role on 2 April 2012, so it’s not an April Fool’s joke.
