Beers beckon creatives to design Beck’s bottle revamp and Tiger T-shirts

Collaborations between musicians and artists have brought us some of the most memorable pop culture images of the last 50 years. Think iconic images such as the Sex Pistols’ God Save The Queen, or The Velvet Underground and Andy Warholʼs famous collaboration. And now Beck’s is looking do the same by revamping a series of limited edition labels with the help of local talent.

Next year artists Rainbow Monkey, Andrew McLeod and Gavin Hurley will join up with musicians Cut Off Your Hands, Ghost Wave and Parallel Dance Ensemble to each design three labels for Beck’s bottles, inspired by a song from each band.

Beckʼs also ran a competition in design/media tertiary establishments around New Zealand to find an up and coming artist whose work will be featured as part of the campaign on one of the labels. The winner will be announced on 26 January 2012.

And not only will more than 1.6 million Beckʼs bottles soon be sporting a completely original work of art, but those who purchase a promotional 12-pack will also receive four free music downloads of their choice powered by Bandit.fm as part of the Beckʼs Music Shout.

The limited edition bottles will be available in stores and in bars for three months from February.

Meanwhile across town at another brewery…

Tiger beer is giving emerging artists the chance to profile their design talents in the most public of ways – by having it emblazoned across chests nationwide in the Chinese New Year.

The ‘Design a Tiger Tee Competition’  celebrates the imminent Chinese Year of the Dragon (2012) and marries Tiger’s Asian heritage with the beers long-running association with the arts.

To enter, budding artists simply need to incorporate a dragon into their design plus the Tiger beer logo.   The best three designs, judged by a panel including Huffer’s Sam Hickey, will each win a 27” iMac Computer worth over $2700. They also get their original artwork printed on a Tiger ‘Tee’ which will be given away from 23rd January, 2012.

Tiger beers’ Carla Rawson says, “Tiger beer is proud to be different and celebrates self-expression so we wanted to mark the Year of the Dragon, the mightiest of the signs, by giving an emerging artist the chance to create a dragon and Tiger beer inspired ‘Tee’ design and win some great prizes and bragging rights in the process.

But it isn’t just about the big prize – each week a promising design will be picked by the Tiger beer team with the chosen artist receiving a $250 Tiger beer tab.  The competition runs until Friday 15th December. All entrants must be 18 years and over.
