bin Laden effort nets Barnes, Catmur & Friends May Ad of the Month win

When news of Osama bin Laden’s demise was beamed around the world, it didn’t take long for Hell Pizza to capitalise on the news in its typical controversial style, unveiling its  ‘Come in, Osama, we’ve been expecting you’ ad. And the creative culprits behind the ad, Barnes, Catmur & Friends, have been rewarded for their efforts by taking out NAB’s May Newspaper Ad of the Month award.

The judging panel, comprised of Angus Wardlaw from Wag The Dog/Film Construction, Dave Brown from AUT Ad Creativity and Guy Denniston from Publicis Mojo, described it as a “quick, simple and very topical—plus good punctuation!”

DDB’s Coastguard ad ‘The one that got away’ was also acknowledged by the judges as a worthy runner up for the month.

The creative team at Barnes, Catmur & Friends’ will receive $250 cash with the ad sponsored by the NAB into the 2012 Axis Awards. The ad also appears in the “What’s New” section of AdMedia and becomes a Finalist in the 2011 $10,000 Newspaper Ad of Year competition. You can see the other contenders so far here.
