Triple whammy sends prosperous breeze blowing in Zephyr’s direction

2011 has got off to a busy start for Zephyr, with three new accounts being added to an already impressive looking client roster.

Simply Squeezed joins Arano and Super Juice among the Frucor brands the agency already handles and Lighting Plus, the country’s largest network of specialist lighting stores, and Skinfood, a New Zealand made range of skin care products that’s growing rapidly both here and in Europe (Buchanan Group had the account previously), round out the new additions.

Set up around five years ago by ex-Colenso admen Robert Coulter, Warwick Delmonte and Quentin Pfiszter, Coulter says the agency, which is based on a consultancy model, brings in expertise when required and claims to have “all the experience of a big agency without the big agency”, has been happily flying under the radar since it was established and has managed to pick up a reasonable number of sizable accounts through word of mouth.

“And we’ve still got most of them,” he says. “…We’re still having a bit of fun, we try not to work too late or in the weekends and we don’t enter awards. And the clients seem to like it that way.”

Coulter says it will be interesting to work on the retail side of things with Lighting Plus (Zephyr approached the company directly and suggested it was time to move away from the “shots of lights and people yelling” approach and try and differentiate itself from its major competitor), but, as he says, it’s all about selling stuff, whether it’s FMCG or lights.

As for Skinfood, Delmonte says “Robert’s complexion is starting to resemble that of a 15 year-old school girl, and Quent’s heavy scent of Hugo Boss has been replaced by the subtle bouquet of honey, coconut and witch hazel. We’re now on the lookout for pilates and botox accounts”.

Given that Zephyr already handles Otago University, Turners Auctions, Cottonsofts, Nosh, the Contact Triathlon work and a few others, it seems there’s plenty on the plate of the three ‘mature’ partners. Let’s just hope they still have enough time to partake in their regular sausage tasting extravaganza.
