Zac Stephenson appointed managing director at Ikon

OMD general manager Zac Stephenson has left the agency to take over the reins at Ikon.

This appointment comes only a few weeks after news broke of the departures of Emma Bolser and Linus Hjoberg from the joint-managing director roles at Ikon.

Stephenson has served as the general manager at OMD over the last four years but has been at the agency since 2008.

Earlier in his career, he also had stints at MEC, ZenithOptimedia and Mindshare in the UK.

While GroupM (the parent company of Ikon) would not comment on the appointment, OMD provided a prepared statement on the departure of Stephenson from the agency.

“Zac’s been part of the OMD family for almost nine years now, so it’s a very sad day for us all,” said OMD managing partner Andrew Reinholds in a statement.

“He’s got a fantastic opportunity at Ikon and we wish him all the very best for this next exciting chapter in his career. We think they’re very lucky to have him.”

OMD has not yet announced a replacement for Stephenson in the general manager role but did recently appoint David McCallen to head its strategy department.

McCallen was previously at Colenso BBDO and has over 18 years’ experience on both the client and agency side of the business.

Meanwhile, a source has also revealed to StopPress that there have been two additional resignations at Ikon, with Ankit Sehgal resigning from his position as head of performance media and Tatiana Strudwick from her position as trading manager.

They will follow Bolser, Hjoberg and former head of trading Dale Cummings out the door.
