Y&R selects Kim Pick as new executive creative director

Y&R New Zealand has today announced the appointment of Kim Pick as executive creative director.

Pick, one of the country’s rare few female ECDs, joins Y&R from her role as creative director at Colenso BBDO and replaces executive creative director Tim Huse, who is departing for Los Angeles.

She will be working alongside managing director Fleur Head in Wellington, who joined the Wellington office in December last year, as well as fellow executive creative director Tom Paine in Auckland.

In a release, Y&R says her focus will be on brand building, integrated and behaviour change campaigns for Wellington and public-sector clients.

“Kim is the perfect fit for our current clients and aspirations in the Wellington market,” says Head. “She’s incredibly collaborative, highly strategic and thinks beyond advertising solutions. I’m really looking forward to partnering with her.”

With over 20 years of global advertising experience, Pick has worked at agencies in Australia, Singapore, London, New York and New Zealand. She was executive creative director of advertising agency RAPP New York until 2014, before she returned to the New Zealand industry, joining creative partner and husband Wayne Pick at Colenso BBDO. She has won over 100 creative and effectiveness awards for her ideas and craft in brand, digital, social, experiential and direct.

Pick is a former chairman of Australia’s AWARD School and member of the New Zealand Marketing Association Digital Advisory panel. She is currently on the NZ Comms Council Diversity and Inclusiveness Council and looking at ways to foster a more diverse industry, as well as a mentor and university guest lecturer on strategic and creative thinking, digital and advertising craft and creativity.

“I’m immensely proud to have been a part of the team at Colenso BBDO for the past few years, but I’m ready to take on a new challenge, and excited to be stepping into the ECD role at Y&R, which has been building such incredible momentum,” says Pick.
