Turning the volume up

NZME’s Auckland commercial team has seen the addition of three new roles, including general manager of radio revenue – agency Jaana Collins, radio commercial lead – Auckland Greer Ell, and head of print Chris Rudd.

Collins brings over 10 years of radio experience to the role and will be focused on identifying and developing market and client specific strategies. She was previously an agency team lead – radio partnerships at NZME.

Meanwhile, Ell, formerly an account director – radio agency at NZME, brings 12 years of experience in radio sales to her new role. She will work with the Auckland direct sales team to explore opportunities in radio.

On the print side, Rudd will be working across the entire print business – including regional revenue, direct and agency – to ensure creative and cohesive content and advertising opportunities are available across NZME’s suite of newspapers and magazines. The move sees Rudd move from his role of general manager of agency markets.

Shifting focus

Raydar founder Darryl McClay and former Air New Zealand design manager Martin Sawbridge have teamed up to create Shift By Design, a venture to help businesses innovate through human centered design.

Shift By Design brings together McClay and Sawbridge’s experience in design, business and shopper marketing.

The pair worked together for 10 years when McClay ran Raydar and Sawbridge was the creative director. In 2012, Sawbridge left to work at Air New Zealand to manage its in-house design team.

“Darryl and I know each other’s working styles really well and we have complementary creative and business strengths, so we’re able to offer our clients a well-rounded service,” says Sawbridge.

A new mic

Leighton Smith, who earlier this year announced he would be leaving his Newstalk NB morning show at the end of the year, will be going on to start a weekly podcast.

After 44 years on radio, with 34 years at Newstalk ZB, he will move to recording podcasts in the NZME studios. Alongside that, he will also be an opinion columnist for the New Zealand Herald.

Smith’s last day on air will be December 14, following which Kerre McIver will take over the morning show in January 2019.
