NZ Lotteries has announced a number of new appointments to its marketing team, with chief executive Wayne Pickup saying the newbies will bring a strong commercial focus and retail savvy to the business.
Val Green has been appointed as the new general manager of marketing. Green is a very experienced marketing professional, who was most recently marketing director for House of Travel from 2008 to 2012. Prior to this role, she spent eight years in senior consumer marketing and management positions at Telecom New Zealand and several years in market research, including running her own business. She will join NZ Lotteries on 3 September.
In addition, Robert Saunders has joined NZ Lotteries as the marketing manager for Instant Kiwi. He has more than ten years of marketing experience at Cadbury, Goodman Fielder and Nestle.
NZ Lotteries has also made internal appointments within its team, with Kirsty Phillips, previously marketing manager Instant Kiwi, now taking on the role of senior marketing manager, large jackpot games, where she will have the responsibility for managing the Lotto and Big Wednesday brands.
Justin Powell has been appointed to the newly-created position of marketing manager for daily games and new product development, where he will manage the Bullseye and Keno brands, as well as new game development.
Pickup also thanked Wendy Rayner, NZ Lotteries’ departing head of marketing and reigning marketer of the year, for her successful tenure.
“Our business relies on driving a strong emotional connection with our players, so marketing is a key focus of the organisation. A strong and experienced marketing team is therefore essential to our success and ensures NZ Lotteries will continue to generate funds to return to the community,” Pickup says.
Art for Auckland
Metro magazine has appointed Delaney Tabron, the founder and creative director of contemporary culture magazine No, actor and design lecturer at AUT, as its new art director.
“We’re thrilled to have Delaney join our team,” says Metro editor Simon Wilson. “When the vacancy arose, we went looking for an exciting graphic designer who likes to push out the boundaries, who has great creative vision, who loves magazines and who knows what makes this city tick. I don’t think anyone fits that description better than Delaney.”
Tabron has worked as a designer and art director at Publicis Mojo, and was art director at Pavement magazine before founding No. She replaces Matt Moss, who is believed to have gone to AGM.
“We’ve overhauled Metro pretty thoroughly in the past couple of years,” says Wilson. “Most of the writers are new, and we’ve got a stronger focus on lifestyle areas like food and fashion, as well as politics, satire and the arts. We are also committed to great photography and original artwork. Delaney is an expert at mixing classic graphic design with a contemporary edge and I expect she will make an invaluable contribution to the process of creating a great city magazine.”
Mi9, the recently re-branded trade division of MSN New Zealand, has appointed Ursula Mattar as sales manager of the newly-launched advertising network, Microsoft Media Network.
Mattar was most recently MSN account manager and, earlier, held the position of business development manager at The Internet Bureau.
