Taking a seat

The Marketing Association announced the election of two new board members for the 2016 to 2018 term, Tony Mitchell, business consultant at Datamine and Bindi Norwell, executive director of TNS Global.

Re-elected for the same period was Stuart Yorston, general manager of Sealord.

They join Lance Walker chief executive of CIGNA International (chairman), Rainger & Rolfe managing partner Ant Rainger, Fronde director Emma Watson, Auckland Council marketing and publicity manager, communications and engagement Johanna Boerema-Barr, Foodstuffs New Zealand group brand director Jules Lloyd-Jones, Volom Brands managing director Paul Wilkes and MA chief executive Gill Stewart.

A new title

Sara Clemens has a new role at Pandora, taking the title of chief operating officer.

Clemens, previously chief strategy officer for two years, is responsible for leading the company’s ongoing business strategy, corporate development, international operations and expansion efforts, Ticketfly and human resources. She also leads the company’s Music Maker Group, which focuses on making Pandora an indispensable partner for the music industry.

From her past positions as vice president, corporate development at LinkedIn and leadership at Microsoft Corporation, Clemens brings 20 years of commercial and leadership experience to her latest role.

Welcome aboard

MediaWorks has announced the appointment of Jack Matthews to its board.

Matthews has extensive experience in digital media and running and driving new organisations as well as experience in cable networks and broadband.

His recent executive positions include chief executive Fairfax Metro Media (Australia), COO Jupiter Programming (Japan), chief executive Showtime (Australia) and chief executive TelstraSaturn (New Zealand).

Matthews also holds a seat of the boards of Crown Fibre Holdings, Network For Learning, Trilogy International and APN Outdoor as well as chairing Rewardle Holdings, a digital start-up business based in Melbourne.

He is looking forward to working with the MediaWorks Board and management to help realise new opportunities offered by the current media environment.

Moving up

In other MediaWorks news, Jess Knox has been appointed head of sales enablement and will be responsible for both managing the group’s trade marketing and sales enablement team, and driving customer engagement.

Knox has been with MediaWorks for four years in a variety of trade marketing and business development positions, including, most recently, client service director.

Chief commercial officer Mark David said: “Jess is truly an expert when it comes to engaging with clients and the industry, and supporting our sales teams with best-practice, innovative tools and resources. Her work managing our trade marketing across radio was invaluable and we’re thrilled to now have her leading the Sales Enablement strategy across group.”

A new role

DNA has a new digital strategy and product director in Lee Tucknott.

​Tucknott, an experienced designer and leader joins the team from Springload in Wellington, where he was firstly head of UX and then head of delivery.

He said: “I’m genuinely thrilled to be joining the talented team at DNA. As businesses find themselves needing to develop sustainable products that deliver value, to their customers and business, no one is better placed to help them on that journey than DNA.”

DNA general manager Donna Maxwell said Tucknott will add a lot to the DNA team and its clients.

“He’s fun, creative and clever as well as purposeful and passionate about users, effect and doing great work. He has excellent product experience and is strong across UX, platform, CXD, design and team leadership”. 

Taking the lead

Jono Smith has been appointed as general manager of Pocketmath for the expanded region of Japan, Asia Pacific, Australia and New Zealand.

Smith joins the mobile programmatic advertising platform from with 19 years experience in the advertising industry, spanning online and outdoors. His previous role was at Amobee, following positions at News Digital Media, Yahoo7 and Ninemsn.

He said: “We all recognise the role of connected devices in our lives and with many publishers now seeing well over 50 percent of their traffic coming from mobile, and brands dramatically increasing the mobile investment, marketers and media agencies are facing significant challenges to differentiate their brand efforts. My focus will be on collaborating with both marketers and agencies throughout the region to help them achieve their marketing goals through mobile, supporting those that are pushing ahead with innovative and creative executions while also encouraging others who need assistance to deploy mobile campaigns.”

Moving on

Nigel Grant, trade marketing manager at NZME has moved to a marketing lead role at BNZ in the business, small business, partners team. He won’t be replaced. 

A change of scenery

FCB senior planner Emma Popping is jet-setting of to America. She leaves to go travelling after seven years with the agency with no direct replacement. Prior to her departure, the entire planning/strategy team was restructured and StopPress covered the addition of Murray Streets from Saatchi & Saatchi Auckland and Dan West from FCB Inferno.
