Stepping up

The strategic media investment and partnerships division of Dentsu Aegis Network, Amplify, has appointed Greg Brown as president for Australia and New Zealand.

Brown joined Dentsu Aegis Network in June 2015 as media group chief financial officer. In his new role, he will direct major media investments across Dentsu Aegis Network’s clients, working with Amplifi’s team of more than 100 staff across the region.

Greg Brown and Simon Ryan

CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network ANZ Simon Ryan said in the release: “With his extensive media industry background, Greg has a great understanding of the landscape and the strength of the relationships we have with our media partners. I know he will do an excellent job in continuing to strengthen Amplifi ensuring that our clients receive the best value and connections in media locally and globally.”

Brown added: “I am really looking forward to leading the incredible team across Australia and New Zealand, who are already playing an integral role in shaping the current success and future positioning of the Dentsu Aegis Network, on a local and global level. I look forward to working closely with our agencies and leadership team to continue to drive business success for all our clients.”

Amplifi was formerly led by Paul Brooks, who was appointed CEO of Dentsu Aegis Network media agency Carat earlier this month. Greg’s successor as Media Group CFO role will be announced in due course.

Playing a new game

MediaWorks Canterbury has a new addition to its sales team with Chris Harris stepping in.

People may recognise Harris from his time in the Black Caps, during which he was known for his nagging slow-medium wobblers and as one of the best fielders to ever play for New Zealand.

Off the pitch, he spent he last three years working in medical sales and now looks forward to adding value to the MediaWorks’ team.

“Radio runs in the Harris family, with all three brothers now currently working for MediaWorks, so I am very excited about the new challenge that lies ahead,” he said in the release.

GM MediaWorks Canterbury Rob McDonald called Harris a true Cantabrian who is well respected, and said it is “great to have him now representing [its]very strong media brands in the Canterbury region”.

Taking the lead

Destinations Magazine has a new editor in Fiona Fraser.

Fraser, who is also a recruitment consultant at 3rdeye, has previously worked as a senior account manager at Cavalry Marketing & Design, and as a web content manager at EBOSS.

She stepped into the role earlier this month following Rowena Bahl’s departure to pursue other passions.

A strategic hire

Little Giant has announced the appointment of Ian Howard as chief strategy officer.

Howard was most recently head of strategy at Interbrand and has held strategic leadership roles at TVNZ and Young&Shand.

Little Giant CEO Mark Hurley describes the appointment as another big step forward for the digitally-led agency: “We are extremely excited to have someone of Ian’s quality and experience leading our strategy department.

“…The fact someone of Ian’s calibre left a global powerhouse like Interbrand for an Independent like us really speaks to what we are building here. 2017 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for us and our clients,” he said in the release.

The appointment of Ian Howard follows an influx of talent to Little Giant with Danica Paki, Tanja Seselj, Richie Bramley and Bart Etcheverry all joining the agency in the last six months.

Expanding its talent

Photoplay has announced the signing of award-winning Sydney director Tracey Rowe for representation in Australia and New Zealand.

Rowe is the director behind the Moccona ‘Sleeping Beauty’ campaign and it was her honest and feminine approach to storytelling that drew her to the attention of Photoplay executive producer Oliver Lawrance.

“Tracey is a wonderfully distinct filmmaker who sees the world with a photographer’s gaze yet has a sensitivity to her work. She is such a talented filmmaker yet also a lovely human to work with, and that’s important,” Lawrance said in the release.
