Movings and Shakings: 29 September

Global expansion

The Sweet Shop has opened a new lead office in Shanghai, expanding its footprint to a total of seven locations around the world.

Founder and CEO of The Sweet Shop Paul Prince says the Shanghai office will play a dynamic role in providing quick-fire response and creative production solutions to clients and agencies across Mainland China.

“Our point of difference is we can produce content to an international standard, while also having an intimate understanding of local brands and agencies.”

Heading up the new Shanghai hub is Laura Geagea, who will take on the new position of managing director for China.

Fluent in Mandarin, English, French, Arabic and Spanish, Geagea has worked all over Asia as both a freelance producer and as The Sweet Shop Asia’s executive producer for Asia MENA.

She has experience across all types of media and has been the lead on projects as diverse as art installations, photo shoots, commercials and feature films. Recently, she produced director Steve Ayson’s highly acclaimed ‘Senior Rebel’ spot for Volkswagen out of DDB Guoan, Amos LeBlanc’s ‘Sit Closer Together’ for Tiger Beer from Marcel Sydney, as well as Damien Shatford’s ‘Powerwalk’ spot for TD Ameritrade.

About the appointment, Geagea says: “Shanghai is home for me. I’ve lived and worked here for nine years now. We feel it’s the right time to have an office here to expand our offering to clients and agencies, and support the development of our new talent. There are friends in the local advertising community we would love to work with more.”

Coming home

TVNZ has a new corporate communications manager in Rachel Howard.

Howard’s new role sees her return to TVNZ where she worked from 2012 to 2015 as a publicist and communications manager. Most recently, she was working in the UK as a publicist for BBC.

She steps in to take the place of Emma-Kate Greer, who departed recently to take on a comms role at Genesis Energy.

As corporate communications manager, Howard will work alongside TVNZ general manager of corporate communications Georgie Hills.

Stepping up

oOhMedia has announced the appointment of Tony Faure as its chair.

Faure has been a non-executive director for oOh! Media since 2014 alongside his work as a chairman of PredictHQ and Pollenizer, as well as a non-executive director of Medical Channel, Uno Homeloans and Stackla.

In taking on the role, Faure replaces the outgoing Michael Anderson, who was appointed as CEO of MediaWorks in September last year.
