Four thousand initial entries from young New Zealand artists have been stripped down to 20 finalists for this year’s Doodle 4 Google competition.
The competition required students from across four age groups—years 1-3; years 4 -6; years 7-8; and years 9-10—to come up with a Google doodle for the New Zealand homepage. A group of Google volunteers then reduced the four-thousand-strong field to 100, before Michael McCormack, professor Chris Turney, Voyager Maritime Museum’s Karen Walters and ASB’s Ian Boyce served as the judges and chose the 20 standouts.
In addition to the prestigious honour of having a doodle featured on Google’s New Zealand homepage, the finalists also stand the chance of winning a host of great prizes for their schools as well as an Antarctic expedition for one lucky teacher.
Winning, however, depends entirely on votes from the public (get in there and support Regan Brown for this description of his artistic muse: “I would like to go exploring for dinosaurs. I think they are cool”). The polls open this weekend and close on Sunday night, so make sure you cast your vote by heading to the official Doodle 4 Google page.
