Yahoo relaunches the hunt for media planning and buying stars

Yahoo has rekindled the Digital Stars programme it kicked off locally in 2012, this time partnering with Yahoo7 across the Tasman.

The programme rewards the work of digital media planers and buyers because they’re often left out when it comes to other awards — and offers an opportunity to upskill, says Yahoo!’s New Zealand general manager of sales Louis Niven.

“We all know that there are plenty of awards out there for creatives, so this programme is about recognising and celebrating those who don’t often get the credit they deserve. It also provides an educational opportunity for our winners and will help to build their professional profile and careers.”

The two winners of the 2012 programme won a trip to Ad:Tech in Australia and last year the programme was put on hold so it could be reviewed to better align objectives across Australia and New Zealand, Niven says.

This year winners will attend the Mumbrella 360 conference in Sydney in June.

“The aim of Yahoo! Digital Stars is to identify the hottest talent in digital media planning and buying and giving them an opportunity to share their opinions and represent their agency at Mumbrella 360, the biggest media and marketing event in Australia and New Zealand,” says Niven.

“We’re committed to acknowledging talent and providing a platform for New Zealanders to grow and be recognised on the international stage.”

Media planners and buyers can enter Digital Stars if they’ve worked in an Australian or New Zealand agency for up to five years. They can nominate themselves or be peer nominated using a submission on the programme website.

Applications close on 16 April.
