Vodafone brings fan spotting app to Warriors matches

The Fanpic app, already used at big sports fixtures like English Premier League Football, Six Nations Rugby and the 2013-2014 Ashes cricket series, is making its debut at Warriors games thanks to sponsor Vodafone.

The app uses a 360-degree panoramic, 36 billion pixel crowd image taken at events to let supporters zoom in and find themselves, tag their position and share it on social media.

Vodafone introduced it at Westpac Stadium last Saturday to feature the halftime performance by Jon Toogood and a New Zealand Air Guitar band. Of the 22,000-strong crowd at the stadium, the company says more than 1400 people had used the Vodafone branded app to tag themselves.

It plans to use Fanpic again at the next Vodafone Game Day at Eden Park and at the Warriors/Raiders match on 10 May.

“FanPic is about social engagement and using Vodafone technology to make the game day even more enjoyable and interactive," says consumer director Matt Williams.

Warriors supporters not at games can add themselves to Vodafone's version of the app, while those in the crowd were tasked with finding Vodafone's lycra-clad Morphman in the stadium.

FanPic was developed by Huggity, headquartered in Ireland with an office in London.
