Propellerhead’s fancy new digs (Pics)

Last night Auckland-based software company Propellerhead held a house-warming party for its new office on Drake Street. The refurbished warehouse space is a stone’s throw away from the redone Victoria Park Markets and boy is it fancy.

Architect Jack McKinney, of the eponymous McKinney and Windeatt Architects, has done a great job to make the place look completely unlike any other dev shop I’ve ever been in. In fact, if it weren’t for the scattered technical manuals and XKCD comic strips in the cubicles, you’d be forgiven for thinking it was some high end fashion store waiting for new stock.

It’s a real step up from the company’s previous home in Grey Lynn, a heritage building with the propensity to leak on the computers whenever it rained.

The Propellerhead team were meant to move into the space last June, but this was delayed until August because of construction time. The refurbishment wasn’t fully completed until just last month.

There are around 50 staff working from the Drake Street office, of which around 80 percent are developers and engineers.
