Lance Walker appointed chair of Marketing Association

Cigna Life Insurance chief executive Lance Walker has been appointed the new chair of the Marketing Association and will take up the position vacated by the retiring Debra Hall.

Having held a range of senior management roles throughout the 2000s, Walker will bring significant leadership experience to the position.

He was appointed the chief executive of Cigna in March 2014, following a six-month sabbatical in France. And before that, he was Loyalty New Zealand for five years, three of which were in the role of chief executive (he also had stints as the head of Fly Buys and the head of customer insights).

Upon departing from Loyalty New Zealand in 2013, Walker spoke to StopPress about the Kiwi retail environment and the role he played in developing to the organisation over the years.

Walker has also enjoyed success as a business owner. In October 2003, alongside Rob Limb, he set up marketing consultancy Limb Walker Partners. The company grew quickly and by end of 2006 it was acquired by DDB Advertising Group to become the New Zealand arm of international direct marketing network Rapp Collins. Walker stayed with Rapp until 2008, when he left to take up the role at Loyalty New Zealand.

Walker could not be reached for comment earlier today, however previous chair Hall confirmed that Walker had taken over the reins at the association.

Asked whether the Marketing Association had appointed a new chief executive following the recent resignation of Michael Pryor, Hall said that a decision was yet to be made in this regard.

Hall indicated that she is continuing to build her next career as a professional director, building a portfolio of governance roles across a range of sectors.
