Braaaaaiiiiinnnnnnnnsssssssss: TVNZ’s Zombie-inspired culinary promotion

Who’s hungry, has the appetite of a zombie, and could really go for some brains right now? The Auckland public apparently, as TVNZ proved when it promoted its new OnDemand exclusive show iZombie by hooning around the city in a food truck and handing out zombie-inspired food.

The food truck—provided by Pete Stewart from the Roaming Dive, who also provided the food—displayed promotional images of iZombie’s Kiwi actress Rose McIver, as well as a delicious sounding free menu featuring brain nuggets, poached brain and other delights.

The Menu:

Poached Brain with sweet blood sauce

Blacksand and Zipfer were behind the campaign and thousands visited the truck over the weekend. The show launched on March 19 and TVNZ digital marketing manager Rebecca Brown says TVNZ has seen streams steadily increase across the week.

“The activation was one element in a nationwide campaign that ran across TV, digital, social and Pandora,” she says. “The beauty of the activation was that it gave us a chance to share our enthusiasm for the show with the public. It was infectious, sparked social conversation and gave people the opportunity to not only eat like Liv [Rose McIver’s character] but also engage with our brand.”

ZM also got in on the fun and radio DJ Jase set up his colleague PJ for a surprise lunch featuring brains from TVNZ’s food truck.
