Data dump: ad spend high rollers of 2014

Nielsen has released its list of the ten brands that spent the most on advertising in 2014, according to rate card data. And, as has been the case over the last few years, Progressive Enterprises and Foodstuffs once again slogged at out for the top two spots. Retail players also featured further down the list, with The Warehouse, Harvey Norman and Mitre 10 all nabbing spots. And Spark and Vodafone also showed that telcos are good accounts to have in the ledger.

Interestingly, the only bank to feature in the list was ANZ, leaving two more spots, which were taken up by Brand Developers and Unilever.

The latest rundown from Nielsen once again reiterated the status quo of big spenders that has been established over the last few years. But for a few shifts over the years, the top ten list of ad spenders has remained largely unchanged since 2011.

It’s also worth comparing Nielsen’s rate card data with that of the SMI, which is based on media agency spend.
