The Warehouse Group gets slice of online buying spree action

The Warehouse Group has brought its own version of the 24-hour online buy-up Cyber Monday to New Zealand, ahead of another Kiwi event based on the concept.

The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming, Red Alert, Torpedo7, 1-Day, ilovebeauty, pet.co.nz, No.1 Fitness and shotgunsupplements.co.nz were among the participants in the group’s 12 November event, Click Madness.

It happened about two weeks ahead of Click Monday, set for 25 November. The Warehouse Group CEO Mark Powell says its plans were well advanced by the time Click Monday organisers asked if it would be interested in joining in with that event.

“We have enough scope to manage it ourselves,” says Powell. “We’re fortunate we now have a broad range of online offerings. We can put together enough to make it exciting across the group.”

The 24-hour sale was more than half way through when Stop Press spoke to Powell. He said the sales uplift of five or six times that of normal sales levels made it akin to the uplift the group experiences on Boxing Day.

The group doesn’t reveal online sales numbers, but Powell said sales on the day were “really taking off and going nuts actually”.

It promoted the event with campaign across Kiwi sites that attract high traffic volumes.

Cyber Monday kicked off the US in 2005 and the concept has been replicated in various countries since.

Hallenstein Brothers, Glassons, Stevens, Pascoes, Ezibuy, Briscoes and Bendon are among the participating retailers in Click Monday.
