Shine adds a double to its growing client coterie

Auckland indie agency Shine doesn’t really play the show-offy PR game like many of its contemporaries and tends to focus on doing good work for some pretty big clients like Fonterra, Speight’s and Hyundai. And it’s thought it has added another two big scalps to that list, taking House of Travel off Saatchi & Saatchi and GE Capital off Y&R.

Shine’s managing partner Simon Curran couldn’t be contacted, but Y&R’s managing director James Hurman confirmed the GE news.

“We did some project work with GE (it was never retained business and we only did one slice of their comms). There’s a changing of the guard at GE with a new marketing director and along with those changes they’ve chosen to consolidate projects with Shine.”

GE Capital, the mothership for brands such as GE Money, Gem Visa, Custom Fleet, Equipment Finance, Pacific Premium Funding and Distribution Finance, appointed Y&R as its creative agency just over a year ago and, according to a release, that meant it would be taking care of “all creative, direct, social and digital work on its brands across both consumer and commercial businesses”.

As for House of Travel, it’s thought it had been talking to a handful of agencies recently and is looking at promoting a message to the market that, with newish chief executive Mark O’Donnell having replaced Kevin Kenrick last year, it’s due for a refresh.

In other Shine news, it has recently created a campaign for Fonterra’s Anchor Fast Start breakfast product and we’ve also heard there’s a big Speight’s campaign in the wings. Stay tuned.
