Publicis Mojo bags a big one

Award hogging Aussie Rebecca Carrasco has been named as creative director at Publicis Mojo, Auckland, replacing Steve McKenzie.

Carrasco was a founding partner of Colman Rasic Carrasco in Australia but split from her own agency earlier this year. Prior to that, she honed her creative skills in a range of Australasian agencies and even found time to get stuck into a PhD on the power of ideas at the University of Technology, Sydney.

Carrasco started off at Colenso BBDO in 2003 after taking out YoungGun of the Year award, before moving to Saatchi’s NZ and then on to Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney.

“Rebecca is a trans-media thinker whose ideas span digital and technology applications as well as traditional channels,” says Craig Davis, Mojo co-chairman. “She will bring her innate curiosity and entrepreneurial energy to the New Zealand team, and to our clients around the region.”

Carrasco has a bunch of awards to her name: her international tally includes a United Nations Award and the Asia Pacific Child Rights Award for her MTV Exit Foundation campaign, which featured anti-trafficking music videos for bands such as Radiohead and The Killers. Her work has been recognised with gold medals at Cannes, One Show Entertainment, One Show, Clio, New York Festivals and AWARD and she has also been awarded at The Andys, D&AD, and the London Internationals.

Locally, her MTV (Welcome Snoop) work achieved Campaign of the Year at the B&T Awards and AWARD, as well as the AWARD Client of the Year. In 2008, her own agency was named AdNews’ Emerging Agency of the Year.

She has been invited to judge Agency of the Year Awards for AdNews, B&T, Australian Creative, and Fairfax Media Marketing. She has been on juries at The Andys, Clios, New York Festivals, London Internationals, YoungGuns, and AWARD. She is on the AWARD Executive Committee and is co-head of AWARD School. She has addressed The Caxtons, PADC, and the Youth Marketing Forum.

Her clients have included MTV, MTV Exit, Barclays, iShares, Cerebos, Premium Beverages, BMW Mini, NZ Telecom, Sky City, Tip Top, Masterfoods, Toyota, Frucor, TVNZ, and TV3.

“The company is now perfectly positioned to deliver on our vision of a fluid, regional offering across geographies and disciplines,” says co-chairman Graeme Wills. “We welcome Rebecca, who will be integral to Mojo’s mission to deliver creative solutions that lead business thinking.”
