Crusaders do not have WiFi capability: Daikin explores the differences between a heat pump and rugby players

What’s the difference between a heat pump and a Crusader?

Not much if the Daikin’s new campaign is anything to go by but that doesn’t stop the heat pump brand from searching for a connection to promote its sponsorship of the team.

The hero spot, by video production company Eyes and Ears, flicks between shots of Crusaders Israel Dagg, Joe Moody, Tom Sanders, and a Daikin heat pump. Meanwhile, a voiceover follows along, identifying a feature of the players or heat pump with each transition of shots.

The similarities between the two are tenuous, such as Daikin’s European make and the Crusader’s Christchurch origins. However, the spot does confirm the heat pump is not good at interviews and the Crusaders don’t have Wifi capability.

What the rugby players are good at is catching, passing, playing an 80-minute game and running, with the spot explaining they have an average speed top speed of 30 kilometres per hour and cover up to 10 kilometres per game.

Those features of the Crusaders have been on show this year, with the team on a winning streak since March, having come out on top in their last 13 games.

As well as supporting the team, Daikin is also a supporter of The Block New Zealand, which recently debuted its seventh season with the total overnight audience reach for the first week hitting 1,090,900 in 5+, up 5.8 percent (59,900 viewers) year-on-year.
