Boyd PR releases sequel to Northland Rescue Helicopter kids’ book

Following the successful launch of Juliet to the Rescue for Northland Rescue Helicopter, Boyd PR has unveiled a sequel.

Once again written and illustrated in-house at Boyd PR, Lima Leaps to the Rescue features Juliet’s colleague, Lima, and tells the story of a brother and sister duo, Ollie and Tia.

The adventurous pair head off looking for an old shipwreck, and some long-lost taonga, when a boogie board ride down the dunes goes wrong.

Boyd PR general manager Scott Kara says the agency that worked with the rescue chopper service for almost a decade and has always looked at ways to develop unique fundraising opportunities.

“We always wanted to do a series of books and following the success of Juliet we really had no choice but to bring Lima to life – next year it’s Mike’s turn,” he says of the service’s third chopper.

Kara says the first edition of the book sold over 1,000 copies, giving the team the confidence to release another one.

“This time round we also wanted to incorporate te reo into the story to reflect the influence and importance of the Māori population in Northland,” he says.

“Part of our job is to put a spotlight on the incredible work the Northland Rescue Helicopter does, but a bigger and more important part is coming up with ways to help them raise vital funds they need to keep these choppers in the air.”

Northland Rescue Chopper general manager Vanessa Furze says kids love the real-life helicopters and the book gives the choppers a personality all of their own.

“We think Lima will be just as well read by kids and their parents as Juliet was, and the setting in the sand dunes of the Far North puts the spotlight on another beautiful part of our region,” she says.

The books are available to buy online.
